Overview:
The University's "Home Field Advantage" Campaign is underway with the construction of facilities that are critical to the success of the university's Division I athletics program. The new baseball and softball fields and track are important additions to the university's profile as a full-service university. The new facilities will advance our reputation not just among Division I contenders but also among prospective students of all kinds from across the country.

A Campaign Update:  The Good News...
The University of Hartford exceeded its home field advantage fundraising goal for phase I by raising $6.8 million and by doing so the university met the requirements for a $700,000 challenge grant from the prestigious Kresge Foundation.

Construction on phase I involved the renovation of an existing soccer and lacrosse field (Al-Marzook Field), the relocation and construction of a softball field, and the construction of a baseball field.

The University broke ground on the HFA project in April 2005, and by the fall of 2005, soccer games were being played on the renovated artificial turf al-marzook field. The baseball and softball fields opened this past spring along with a new snack bar. The final stage of phase I will be the addition of a press box on Al-Marzook Field and the installation of a press box and bleachers on the baseball and softball fields.

More than 800 donors gave to the HFA project, with the majority of gifts coming from alumni. Thirty-six donors joined the circle of commitment (gifts of $25,000 or more), led by Tom and Suzy Reich of West Hartford with their $2 million lead gift.

The Campaign Phase II:  Still More To Do...
The all-purpose field is in place but we still need to convert it to artificial all-weather turf and add an eight-lane track surrounding it, as well as to complete other general athletics upgrades. The new field and track are an important resource for the entire student body, supporting individual wellness and underscoring the importance of healthy bodies as well as healthy minds. The new facilities will serve students, faculty, staff, and the greater hartford community. The HFA Phase II campaign is in the early planning stage.

A Vital Link to the Community:
The University's location within West Hartford, Hartford, and Bloomfield makes it ideally suited to serve the surrounding population through general recreation facilities and through camps and clinics.
